Spiral Wound Gaskets, manufacturing of which stems from the necessity of proper sealing function in applications with elevated temperature and pressure, are one of the most important gaskets used all over the world. The detrimental effects of temperature and pressure oscillation, temperature variation across the flange face in addition to the formed stress, creep and relaxation in bolts are the main agents of requisition for gaskets with sufficient recovery and resilience. PALMFOX spiral wound gaskets are precisely engineered products that can provide a premium quality sealing system in such conditions. It should be mentioned that these types of PALMFOX gaskets are completely resistant to tough situations having high temperatures and pressure besides almost all corrosive and poisonous media. |
These gaskets are comprised of pre-fabricated particularly V-shaped metal winding strips having layers with a more elastic and compressible sealing material. To be precise, when the gasket is installed, during compressive loads these layers go through a densification procedure and flow in order to fill existent flaws in the flange surfaces. Moreover, the “V” profile enables the whole sealing system to have spring-like behavior. The flexibility characteristic also obtains extraordinarily accurate sealing functions during compressive loads with constant fluctuations. For the purpose of expediting the selection process of appropriate gaskets for different applications, the PALMFOX SPW gaskets are colored variously. In the table below the different types of winding, metals and fillers are given.
Different styles of spiral wound gaskets: Style CG: This style consists of a sealing component and an outer metal ring. The outer ring is of great significance in preventing over-compression of the sealing element and ensuring efficient sealing function especially when the gasket is located on the mating flange faces. Style CG in PALMFOX gaskets is mainly used for mild to moderate services. Raised and flat-faced flanges are able to be sealed by CG-style gaskets.
Style CGI: CGI style gasket has a metallic inner ring in addition to the outer metal one. The primary function of this ring is exercising a restriction on both internal and external diameters of the sealing element. Furthermore, the inner ring acts as an augmented compression stop and also an obstruction against the internal buckling of the sealing component. The other purpose of embedding the inner ring in these gaskets is to prevent erosion of the sealing element. This gasket is applicable for raised and flat-faced flanged connections and different work conditions ranging from moderate to intensified.
Style G: This style is comprised of a sealing element. In order to modify sealing performance, supplementary metal layers are used at the beginning and termination of the winding process. In contrast to other styles of SPW gaskets, in G-style gaskets, controlling compression of the sealing component is carried out by utilization of the proper flange face configuration. This style of PALMFOX SPW gaskets is suitable for applying on various kinds of flanged connections including flat to groove, tongue, and groove, male and female ones.
Style GI: GI style is another type of SPW gasket constructed out of a sealing component and inner metal ring. The role of the inner ring in this style is to act as a compression stop and create a physical barrier between the fluid stream and the sealing unit. Moreover, the inner ring serves the function of decreasing turbulent flow, minimizing flange erosion, and preventing the formation of debris in the annular space between the internal diameter of the gasket and the pipe bore. The main application of this style is on male and female flanged connections.
